How to Manage Acid Reflux Naturally: Tips for Long-Term Relief

Acid reflux occurs when there is too much acid in the stomach, more than required for the digestion process.

Symptoms of acid reflux include:

  • Heartburn
  • Bad taste in mouth
  • Sore throat
  • Bloating

Tips for long term Relief

  • Eat smaller meals throughout the day
  • Avoid spicy and fried foods that can aggravate your symptoms
  • Prefer homemade cooked meals over ordering outside food
  • Hydrate yourself, drink at least 3 to 4 litre of water everyday
  • Do not sit for longer hours, get up every hour from your chair and walk
  • Short walks for 10 min after meals
  • Practise yoga for long term relief
  • Elevate your head while sleeping

Remedies to manage Acid reflux

There are some herbal teas and foods that can alleviate symptoms of heartburn.

Ginger Tea

Ginger root anti inflammatory properties and helps in digestion of food Take a few slices of ginger and steep in water for 10 – 15 min. Drink this tea once or twice a day to improve digestion.

Fennel Seed

Fennel seeds can be chewed after every meal or can be taken as fennel tea. It aids in digestion process and improves the functions of lower esophageal sphincter (LES) that prevents the acid to go back into esophagus.

Coconut water

Coconut water has hydration and cooling properties that helps in alleviating symptoms of hyperacidity.

Banana

Banana has natural alkaline properties which neutralise the acid and it coats the lining of stomach due to its natural ANTACID PROPERTIES Eat one ripe a day banana preferably before meal.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera juice has natural healing and soothing properties that soothe and decrease the irritation in stomach linings.
Drink 1/4th cup of aloe vera juice mixed in water empty stomach every morning.

While these home remedies provide relief from acidity but if symptoms persist you should consult a healthcare provider for proper diagnose and treatment.
